AAACC at the deYoung

February is Black History Month and the AAACC has a series of performances that will occur at the de Young this Friday.

“The African American Art & Culture Complex (at 762 Fulton Street) will collaborate with the de Young Museum to present its official Black History Month celebration, in tribute to the myriad contributions of African American citizens. We will feature music by Lawrence Beaman, dance and drum performance by Bumpity Thump dance troupe, music by DJ Mpenzi, live artist demonstrations by Karen Seneferu, Malik Seneferu and Nanette Harris, spoken word by San Francisco poet laureate, Devorah Major, and a variety of fun activities including collage art, jewelry-making and hair braiding for all ages.

Also, join Docent Sharon Walton on a journey through the galleries as she focuses on artistic contributions made by African American artists such as Jacob Lawrence, Aaron Douglas, Henry Ossawa Tanner, Joshua Johnson, Elizabeth Catlett, and more.” Posting from the AAACC.
