Hayes Valley Farm: “Liquid Light” by flickr user CJMartin

As you may know, the interim-use agreement for Hayes Valley Farm will expire this summer.

The farm sits on two of the former Central Freeway parcels, Parcel O and Parcel P.

Central freeway development parcels Dennis Yang.jpeg

There are a number of Central Freeway parcels slated to be converted into Affordable Housing units, including Parcel O.

These projects were managed by Redevelopment Agency, which has recently been dissolved.

The Mayor’s Office of Housing is now responsible for managing these housing projects.

Come to the next Hayes Valley Community meeting to find out more about the future of the Farm and join the discussion!

We had a great discussion at the Community meeting last night (3/22/12)
with Police Chief: Greg Suhr and Captain of Northern Police Station: Ann Mannix.

Photo of Chief Suhr

A few tips we learned from our discussion last night:

-Chief Suhr has a strong belief in community policing in Hayes Valley, Western Addition and Lower Haight

-Crime is down. This is because everyone is working hard together – communities and police and non-profits. Best way to keep our area safe is to provide great activities for youth and to give them hope about their future.

-Work with police to connect with youth that need mentorships and internships. Youth need jobs and skills to get excited about their future in the workforce and in the community as adults.

-What to do when you observe crimes in city parks and public areas?

If you are observing a crime taking place – please call 911.
If you have observed an ongoing problem, please email or call Northern Police Station
(415) 614-3400

SF SAFE (San Francisco SAFE, Inc. (Safety Awareness for Everyone) is a non-profit organization that guides residents, business owners, and community members to improve the quality of life in their neighborhoods.) is working to address recycling/trash scavenging in the city. If you want to join a task force to address underground scavenging of trash please contact Troy at: 553-1968

At our general meeting last week we discussed redistricting and what it might mean for Hayes Valley. Please keep reading to find a meeting that you can go to and give your input into the process.

For current and more in depth information, go to: http://www.sfgov.org/rdtf

· In 2010, a census was done and revealed that our supervisorial districts are not equal in population.

· Redistricting is needed because federal, state and local laws require that districts be equal in population.

· District 6 is 29.49% over. District 5 is 3.45% under. District 8 is 5.38% under.

· The Board of Supervisors has convened a nine person Redistricting Task Force to redraw the supervisorial district lines. The Board of Supervisors, the Mayor, and the Elections Commission each appointed 3 people. The members of the task force are unpaid.

· The Redistricting Task Force must present a final plan outlining the new supervisorial district lines to the Board of Supervisors by April 15, 2012.

· The task force works with City staff and outside consultants to determine how the supervisorial district lines should be redrawn. The community can also weigh in its option.

· It is important that new lines don’t dilute the voting power of minorities and that they maintain recognized neighborhoods intact.

· The Redistricting Task Force hold regularly scheduled meeting open to the public and will hold multiple community hearings to receive input from the people of San Francisco. See schedule below.
