Volunteer to build haunted houses

Halloween is only a few weeks away and there are two groups who are in need of volunteers to build their haunted houses (lots of muscle & height), dress up & be a prop, story tell, and be a chaperon for day of event. Your gift of time will assure a safe, fun and memorable Halloween event for Western Addition youth and their families.

The first group in need of volunteers, to build their Haunted House, is the CA Public Utilities Commission. This is their 14th year of playing host, providing candy, balloon art, face painting, story telling, Dias Los Muertes Celebration, games and providing costumes to over 700 elementary kids annually. Their continued dedication truly embodies the spirit of community give back. In the past, CA PUC workers were able to get volunteer time off to build the house. Due to budget cuts that is a thing of the past, it is now time for community members to step up and fill this void. Your give back of time and energy will assure a memorable day for over 790 school children from John Muir, Rosa Parks, Tenderloin & Robert Louis Stevenson elementary schools.

To volunteer contact Wendy, coordinator haunted house, at wendy.al-Mukdad@cpuc.ca.gov or 703-2311.
Ten volunteers daily to assemble structure, lots of muscle & height, are needed Monday October 24th from 10 am till 5 pm thru Wednesday October 26th.
Ten volunteers needed to set up props/display area on Thursday October 27th from 10am till 5 pm.
Ten volunteers needed Friday October 28th, day of event, from 8:30 am till 1 pm either get dressed &made up to be a prop or simply greet kids as they enter the haunted house.
All volunteers report to CA PUC courtyard located at 505 Van Ness.
To volunteer Friday October 28th, day of event, from 8:30 am till 2 pm to dress up & story tell, be a crowd flow monitor and hand out candy please contact Victor at vds@cpuc.ca.gov or 703-2992.

The second group in need of volunteers is the Western Addition Beacon Center. This is their fifth year to provide a haunted house, food, fun, games, costume contest and bouncy house for all the Western Addition community to enjoy. Marco, coordinator, is in need of volunteers to help build haunted house, chaperon day of event, set up, work at booths, serve food and clean up.
· 10 volunteers are needed daily at John Muir Elementary Auditorium located at 380 Webster to build the haunted house. The start date is Wednesday October 26th, from 4pm till 6 pm, and will continue thru Friday October 28th.
· 15 volunteers are needed Saturday October 28th, day of event, to set up, serve food, chaperon, work a booth and clean up.
· To volunteer please contact Marco at either mdiaz@ymcasf.org or 749-2715.

Thanks for reading this lengthy request and please make time to give back. Your gift of time & energy is a simple way to invest in our youth to assure they have a safe, fun and memorable day.

Thanks

John Muir Elementary School needs help getting a new playground

Dear Neighbors of John Muir Elementary School,

The preschool special education and general education student at John Muir Elementary School do not have a play structure; children run out and play on a bare patch of asphalt surrounded by chain link fence. We’re one of the only schools in San Francisco without a play structure!  Read more at our website:
www.muirautismplayproject.com/

Muir ES is in the Pepsi Refresh Contest, and if we’re one of the top 15 vote recipients between September 1-30, we’ll win $20,000 to win a playground, but we need your help!  We need everyone to vote every day for us-votes are cumulative through the month, so every vote counts!  We need daily votes- 100,000 votes by the end of the month in order to win! Here’s how you can help:

*  Vote via facebook:  go to www.refresheverything.com/muirautismplayground< and log-in using facebook.  Vote every day!

*  Vote with a Pepsi Refresh account:  go to www.refresheverything.com/muirautismplayground< and create a Pepsi account.  Vote every day!

*  Vote via text!  Text  message the code 108702 to this number: 73774 every day!

*  Or…do all three, every day!  Every vote counts!

*  You can also enter codes on specially marked Pepsi bottles (“Refresh Everything” with a yellow cap) to win up to 100 extra votes!

*  Share with friends, students’ parents, other teachers, and ask them to support us as well.

Thank you so much for your support! Please share with your organizations, networks, colleagues, friends, neighbors and families! Thank you!!
