Peace Sculpture in Patricia’s Green
A major goal of Hayes Valley Arts Coalition is to have continual sculpture installations in Patricia’s Green, and we have been fortunate with the work they have done so far. Michael Christian’s Koilos recently left the park, and the Arts Commission is slightly delayed in installing the Peace Sculpture that will replace it. While we had expected it in time for the election, thus focusing both on the issue of peace in our time and the 40 year anniversary of the summer of love, these things take time. The Arts Commission is now expecting that installation will take place Thanksgiving week.
Hayes Valley Arts Coalition, with financial support from area merchants and HVNA, has handled the expenses of installation and breakdown of the artwork not managed by the Arts Commission. They already have the next installation lined up a piece by local artist Mark Baugh-Sasaki. We look forward to both of the upcoming installations, and appreciate how the placement of temporary art helps to activate the park for a diverse audience.
