Conservatory Announces 2010-11 Season
By Joseph Sargent

For its recently announced 2010-11 season, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music presents some 400 performances of all shapes and sizes. Highlights include celebrations of the 25th anniversary of our chamber music program, orchestral and new music collaborations with local and international institutions, plus several opera productions. Most events are free and take place in the Conservatory’s beautiful concert and recital halls. For full details, visit our website at www.sfcm.edu.

Since moving to Hayes Valley/Civic Center in 2006, the Conservatory has become a fixture of the neighborhood arts community, helping to make it a destination for music lovers citywide. Combining artistic excellence with the vibrancy of a talented young student body, the Conservatory offers one of the neighborhood’s most exciting and affordable cultural experiences.

Students come from around the world to study within the Conservatory’s intimate, nurturing community. They also go on to do some extraordinary things. For example, 30 of our alumni currently perform with the San Francisco Symphony, Opera and Ballet orchestras. Our world-class faculty members are well-known artists in their own right, with full performance schedules alongside their teaching.

Neighborhood residents find many ways to get involved with the Conservatory. Many are regular concert-goers, choosing from a broad selection of performances by students, faculty and guest artists. Others enroll in classes and lessons through the Adult Extension division, or hire student musicians to perform at weddings, parties and other occasions through the Music To Go! program. Some residents choose to connect even further, offering housing to students or supporting the Conservatory financially.

Conservatory students, faculty and staff have greatly benefited from being part of the Hayes Valley community. Many of us live in the neighborhood and regularly patronize the eclectic array of restaurants, shops and other amenities. We invite you into our own home at 50 Oak Street to attend our performances, and look forward to seeing you soon!
