We’ve received word from New Seasons that the lease is signed for a full service grocery store at 555 Fulton St, between Laguna and Octavia. Our neighbors have waited for a grocery store within walking distance for more than two generations.
Soon, there will be new activity on our streets and sidewalks, filled with pedestrians and cyclists. We will be able to find groceries, fresh food, a deli, and packaged food, for us all. New Seasons is a b-corporation, which means they give back to the community as part of their business requirements. It will accept food assistance program coupons. It will truly serve us all.
Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association welcomes New Seasons Market to our neighborhood. The importance of affordability in food is a key component of living in Hayes Valley and the Western Addition. HVNA board of directors voted last year to make a one-time exception to the formula retail ban for this important asset to our community. The site will revert back to the formula retail ban should this site become vacant in the future.
Welcome New Seasons Market! We will be planning events with New Seasons to welcome our grocery store to our neighborhood. Stay tuned.
