Why Hayes Valley Continues to Be An Interesting Place to Live

Hoodline continues its reporting on the history of Hayes Valley, showing historic plans to build a network of freeways throughout the city, reflecting the consequences of building the freeways on a neighborhood. All of the Western Addition, including all of Hayes Valley, was to be destroyed and rebuilt in a new vision of suburban living in the center of the city. “Clean and modern” was the phrase used to described the new building developments (sound familiar in the selling of homes today, especially architecturally-gutted Victorian homes?)
