The NEXUS Gallery at Hayes Valley Art Works presents Quintuple

HVAW presents Quintuple: 5 Artists from the Heart of Hayes Valley

September 17, 2017 – October 25, 2017

About the Gallery & Artists

If you’ve wondered what’s in that brightly painted container at Octavia and Oak, it’s the new NEXUS gallery. With startups populating so much of San Francisco, it’s fitting that the NEXUS gallery popped up in the container at Hayes Valley Art Work’s new location, as part of that organization’s re-startup in the heart of the neighborhood where it began, as a coalition of local artists and neighbors.

NEXUS gallery’s initial show, “Quintuple,” is an exhibit by five local Hayes Valley artists: Barbara Early, Daniel Farnan, Jennifer Maria Harris, Stephen Santamaria, and Earl Speas.  The exhibition focuses on five variations on the theme of vision: how we see life and movement; how we see ourselves in relation to others; how we see and learn to interpret nature and the world around us; how we shape our vision through our stories, both those we tell ourselves and those that we learn; and how our vision shapes community and connection.  The artists bring their own unique take on vision through painting, drawing, photography, digital print media, printmaking, Chinese ink and color on rice paper, and mixed media.

About HVAW

Hayes Valley Art Works (HVAW) is a community creation space with a goal of providing a space for discussion, participation, teaching, learning and sharing artistic expression for the benefit of the neighborhood. Neighbors are encouraged to join in and help the space evolve and grow into a true neighborhood arts resource. HVAW recently relocated from its former home at Laguna and Oak (Lot O) to its new home on Parcel R, situated on Octavia Boulevard between Oak and Lily Streets.
