Public School Community Meeting

Community meeting with presentations by representatives from San Francisco Parents’ Coalition and Better Public Schools SF, followed by a Q&A.

San Francisco Parent Coalition (“SFParents,” is a grassroots collective started and led by public school parents and supporters that was formed during the pandemic; our initial focus was to ensure that our education leaders were focused on the needs of San Francisco’s public school students during prolonged school closures. While we gained momentum and our network grew quickly from 100 to 4,000, families told us we were filling a void: there was no other group lifting up parent concerns and fighting for students. SFParents centers our public school students and holds our city and school district leaders accountable to ensuring an excellent public education system, particularly focused on equitable outcomes for our SFUSD students. We educate and inform families about what is happening at the district, how to get their voices heard, and how to hold our leaders accountable to doing better. We’ve organized petitions, marches and rallies, student and family demonstrations, had Op Eds in local media, and even drafted legislation to help get our schools open at the city and district levels. We are transitioning from being entirely volunteer-led to building a sustainable infrastructure that will increase our impact and effectiveness over time.
The Campaign for Better San Francisco Public Schools ( is working to reform the school board in order to improve our public schools. Our initial plan had been to propose a charter amendment on the June 2022 ballot. We have decided this is not feasible, and we are now working out how best to pivot to support our mission of reform.
