Craft and Design in a Box

The Museum of Craft and Design (MCD) in San Francisco is hosting it popular MakeArt workshops and Speaker Series, presented in conjunction with its third pop-up museum exhibition, “Place Making: Installations at Hayes and Octavia,” on view through October 15, 2011 at the corner of Hayes and Octavia streets in Hayes Valley. The workshops and artist conversations are part of MCD’s exhibition at Proxy, which features site-specific installations created by three artists each conceptualized for the outdoor location in Hayes Valley. Each artist developed work in one of three themes: transparency, light and layering and responded to the site’s urban features and allowed (and will continue to allow during the final installation) for viewer interaction and engagement.

The first installation was by sculptor Andy Vogt using salvaged wood from local construction sites. The second artist’s piece, by Jesse Schlesinger, was a collaborative work with other local artists in a site specific sculpture installation. The final installation will take place Saturday, September 17, from 11:00am – 6:00pm.
