The NEW Cultural Arts Division of the Recreation and Parks Department is proud to introduce 33 new classes for all ages in Visual Art, Digital Art, Music, Dance and Theater at Harvey Milk Center for the Arts, located at 50 Scott Street.
The exciting new Digital Arts programming takes students through an exploration of image, sound and video using digital editing programs and electronic tools. The new Visual Arts classes combine traditional, skill building techniques through programming that fosters community connectivity. Our small class sizes are lead by some of the best instructors in the field, and give students the opportunity to flex their creative muscles while strengthening a sense of artistic and personal identity. Classes range from Digital Sound Arts to Hip-Hop Turntablism, from Teen Fashion Design to Creative Urban Gardening.
The Dance and Theater wing of the Cultural Arts strives to nurture, teach and promote the artistic development of San Francisco’s unique community of diverse individuals. Our mission is to foster creative exchange between mentors, practicing artists and the members of the communities they serve. We offer dance classes for all ages in Dunham Technique, Capoeira, Argentine Tango, Salsa, Creative Movement, Hip Hop, Irish Dance, Tap Dance, and Ethni-Jazz. Our theater classes are taught by leaders in the performing arts field. Be it Scene Study, Physical Character Workshops, or Shadow Puppetry, students are encouraged to hone their craft in this pre- professional, innovative program.
