Last weekend Recology, Public Works, FUF Ivy Street neighbors, Vallie (our new district supervisor) and all her aides, a mayors office aide, and HVNA board members all restored 150 ft of sidewalk gardens. Also involved were volunteers from the Korean Christian Church and the Ethiopian or Eritrean Christian Church. Approximately 30 people participated for this fun event and great memories were had!
Here are some comments from those who participated…
Neighbors meeting are relations for a lifetime.
I’ve always wanted to meet our Ethiopian and Eritrean neighbors. Now I have.
Gardening brings neighbors together. I’ve met so many new friends.
I’ve lived here for 10 years and now with a 1 year old, I’m really afraid for my family. This garden has been trans-formative for me. I feel safe again, and now I know some of my neighbors.
HVNA looks forward to future work in the neighborhood. Have a thought or idea on a good community project? Please contact us to get involved!
