Current volunteer opportunities

LOCAL FOOD BANK

The Food Bank at Bethel AME church needs volunteers every Friday. At 8:30 a.m. they bag up produce & pantry items that are delivered by the SF/Marin Food Bank; then at 11am, they help the Food Bank clients walk through to pick up their bags. Volunteers can come anytime and stay as long as they’re able.

WHEN: Fridays anytime from 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

WHERE: Bethel AME Church (Laguna St/Golden Gate Ave)

GARDENING – LINDEN STREET

Help the Friends of Linden Alley keep it clean and beautiful. Volunteers can help with planting new flowers, seed planting, weeding, and litter pickup. Bring your gardening knowledge because they are open to your ideas.

WHEN: Last Thursday of the month from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

WHERE: Linden Street between Gough & Octavia

GARDENING – HAYES VALLEY PLAYGROUND

Help keep the veggie garden at the Hayes Valley Playground fruitful and weeded as needed:

1) Usually May and again in Oct/Nov for major garden cleaning and soil amendments; 2) Seed/seedlings plantings; 3) Occasionally wattle fence repairs; 4) As needed–Repairs if vandals do damage (rare, but happens).

WHEN: Some Saturdays 11 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

WHERE: Hayes Valley Playground, 699 Hayes St. (Hayes/Buchanan)

GARDENING – HAYES VALLEY ART WORKS

Help keep Hayes Valley Art Works gardens looking beautiful. They also need help with watching the gallery during opening hours.

WHEN: Saturdays and Sundays 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

WHERE: 295 Oak St. (Octavia Street between Oak St. & Page St.

NEIGHBORHOOD CLEANUPS

Keep Hayes Valley clean! We provide all the supplies, just show up and spend some time with your neighbors while cleaning up the neighborhood. Pizza provided at Wednesday cleanups, bagels and coffee provided at Saturday cleanups.

WHEN: 1st Wednesdays 4-5:30 p.m. and 3rd Saturdays 10 a.m.– 12 p.m.

CHILDREN & FAMILIES GROUP

Help organize and/or advertise monthly family meetups. We need help organizing kid friendly activities at the annual Holiday Stroll, the summer Carnival and other events throughout the year.

MEMBERSHIP

Help spread the word about the Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association. Volunteer at membership booths during several events throughout the year. Contribute ideas on how to recruit more members.

EVENT PLANNING

Help us plan and/or advertise the annual Holiday Stroll and the summertime Carnival. Other events pop up throughout the year, and we are open to suggestions on all event ideas. We just want to have fun!

SAFETY

The Hayes Valley Public Safety Committee holds monthly meetings to provide information to Hayes Valley surrounding neighborhoods from city officials and community groups about how to be safe. We also provide public safety bulletins to community members about safety tips they can practice.

WHEN: First Mondays of the month – 6 p.m.
